TGIF

I’m so glad the weekend is here!  I enjoy the work week, but I look forward to the time I spend with Baby at home more than the time I spend away at work.  Work is great, it has its own crazy moments that make me laugh, but when Baby smiles back at me because I simply looked at her, I am so happy.

I need to start taking more pictures of her, and not just Blackberry uploads either.  She deserves to have her very own picture book.  I’m working on it! I just need to collect all my favorite photos and get started!

Fall is here.  Even if we don’t have a real fall season here on the island, I still feel it.

Time to get my sweaters out before I catch a cold.

Cut From Fabric

During political season campaign ads and speeches are heard on radio and television, and every so often I’ll hear some reference to “the fabric of our nation”, or something about being “woven in the thread of our morale compass”. I guess as Americans we have very important fabric in our history, the American flag to start and lets not forget cotton. I guess politicians would like us to think that all Americans are cut from the same fabric.  I was thinking about this earlier this evening after dinner because although Americans share in many things like the American dream, big house, successful job, fun law abiding dog, we really aren’t created equal. We’re just not.  I was reminded of this after having had enjoyed a nice dinner with my family. I looked around at the people I called relatives, there were a couple aunts and uncles, some extended family and two babies.  Only three people held a college degree, myself, my boyfriend, and my cousin’s wife. Our founding fathers never really anticipated having an extension of the United States to be in some far away island in the middle of nowhere. When the University of Pennsylvania became the first University in the United States, my people on this small island was still learning the concept of sharing. Rethink that for a second. That in itself is so disheartening to me, I think I’m done writing at the moment.
